Catfish Gone Wild

Wednesday, January 16th, 2008

Catfish Gone WildTwo things are happening here for me. One, something I love, and two…a guilty pleasure. While this is sorta a mashup…it is also kinda a remixy-thingy-a-bob. Whatever that it IS, I like it. Its funky, blues, catchy and I tell ya, this Catfish is about this biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiggggg!!!(It’s really big)! I swear! Biggest dang catfish you ever did saw. So, from DJ Erb comes a funky fresh LUDACRIS fish tale. Can I make this intro anymore corny? Yes…but I won’t.

Stereogum vs team9 mysplice 2007

Thursday, January 10th, 2008

Sterogum vs team9 mysplice 2007I’m not to sure where to put this under, as it is an album….of sorts. Really though, whatever it is, its FANTASTIC! From stereogum and team9 comes this years “singles” as seen by stereogum. It also sounds like this is sort of an end year tradition for them? I’ll be honest and fess up, I’ve never even herd of them, but this little compilation has peeked my interests. So, here is a link to the album in bit torrent and zip.

Stand by for the floor

Tuesday, January 8th, 2008

Stand by for the floorFrom Copycat comes this fantastic mashup, “Stand by for the floor”. Instead of me explain things to you, Ima just let Copycat do that.

“Been listening to the new Hot Chip for a while now - especially “Ready for the floor” - driving mrs. Cat crazy. One day I was standing in the shower - with the song on. While pogoing away amidst my ablutions, I could hear the muffled, filtered sound of the track, mainly the bassline. That’s when I got this idea.

The bass chord progression in the chorus reminded me very much of Ben E King’s “Stand by me”. Naturally, I had to look into the matter. Unfortunately that part wasn’t instrumental in any of the (many) mixes I had - so I had to improvise. Or compromise, might be a better word…

I de-constructed the lot - and tried to build it up again in my usual half-arsed way, with quite some appropriation and effing up along the way, mind you. But finallly I managed to get it somewhere near what I was aiming for.

Here’s the result. It’s not ‘ready’ anymore - it’s “stand by”. Hope you like. And… do it, do it, do it, do it, do it, do it, do it NOW! ;-)”

Cheers!

Nite Runner

Tuesday, January 8th, 2008

Nite RunnerAnother banging track from team9. Always dressed to impress yes? So, instead of me babbling, Ima just copy what team9 said about this track. So simple sometimes.

Anyone that knows me knows that I have a bit of a thing for Duran Duran. I didnt ‘get’ them until Notorious came out and I heard ‘The Latin Rascals’ remix (which incidently is still killer). From then on I’ve followed every thing they’ve done - some of it thick, some of it thin, occasionally brilliant (see Skin Trade and Come Undone). Their new album ‘Red Carpet Massacre’ has been produced in part by Timbaland which instantly makes it more interesting than their last album, Astronaut. Anyhow, babble, babble…..here is a team9 remix of the track Nite Runner, which, in my book is the stand out track.

So more of a team9 remix. Coolio!

Heretic Faster Better Stronger & The Good Soldier Closer Warning

Monday, January 7th, 2008

Heretic Faster Better StrongerI’m a big nut for NIN, and I’m one of those nuts who quickly grabs an NIN album to see which halo it is. It’s like some kinda of sick obsession I have. So the latest album…initiative is putting together the NIN Remix site, and offering instrumentals and acapellas to the general masses for some mashup goodness. I”ve heard a few but this one from Totom tickles me in the place where I like to be tickled (;p)! So, here we go;

Daft Punk vs Nine Inch Nails

And then there were more. So here are some more. More is sometimes better than less.

The Zombies are Inside Out

Sunday, January 6th, 2008

The Zombies are Inside OutFEIST! Now I am a little sad to say that living here in Calgary, I missed the days of Leslie Feist and Placebo even though we seemed to know the some of the same people in certain circles. How many times did I hear, “Hey, this band Placebo is playing this weekend, wanna check it out?”, only to have me end up at some other venue. Of course there was the Battle of the Bands that I could have gone to…and didn’t for some reason. Ce la Vie. So, here is a pretty nice mashup from Kevan Gilbert and a nice little story to go with it.

Feist vs Sufjan Stevens
