nirgaga

EMI sent DJ Lobsterdust a “cease and quite fucking with our music” letter the other day for his most excellent mashup Nirvana vs. Lady Ga Ga, Nirgaga. Turns out they are sending something similar to anyone who links to this particually awesome mashup as well.

While the regular “cease and desist human!” robotic monotones of lawyer gibbly-goo are not too surprising in our little mashup world of deviants and rubber duckies, the whole “DO NOT LINK TO THIS OTHER SITES POST”  kinda is.

A writer at the RFT (River Front Times) by the name of Annie Zaleski wrote an article to preview an upcoming Lady GaGa concert and showcased DJ Lobsterdusts mashup NIRGAGA. Her editor a few days later received the cease and desist letter, in which I’m guessing, they quickly removed the links pointing to the mashup.

Meh, just one of the perilous rocks in the wild and crazy river boat ride we are all traveling on I suppose. I wonder what the extremely creative Lady GaGa would think of all this?

Some of you may know, that I started this site out of completely selfish reasoning.

Make it easier for me to find mashups by having DJs and bedroom producers SEND me their mashups!

And that was the plan. Then.

Moving on, I’ve been working on a redesign and ‘re-thinking’ of mashupciti and how to make things easier for people to send in their music and listen to it. Now I’ve used a lot of in-between music players and services (kinda makes me seem whoriesh), but I think that SoundCloud Pro Plus really offers the best solution for the “How I’m going to present the music”. Using this service would allow for you guys to send me your tracks (or upload directly to SoundCloud in the mashupciti group), I can then post them into the SoundCloud player,  then to our listeners in a consistent accessible player! That is about 10,000 people per month to make happy! Including ME!

The only issue is the cost. I’m not going to go ask for donations cause really if you want to donate to something, send your money to a REAL cause. I would ask though, click on any of the adverts to give us a helping hand so we can afford the SoundCloud service we need to better show case your music! HELP ME TO HELP YOU!!

gleeaplusdGlee Cast vs. A+D (Jon Bovi vs. Usher)

I can’t help but smile at this. I love the idea that mashups have become the darling concept of even sitcom culture (maybe just a bit of the bad darling still). At this point, I think if it’s getting the ideas and message out to new ears and minds, then awesome. I hope it inspires and gets people to start googling mashup music and see where it takes them.

The next episode of Glee looks like it may contain a few more mashups! Can’t wait to hear the next Glee Mashup!

cover-daftqueen-lgHere is something extremely interesting. As mashups are making their way ever forward into mainstream culture and audience, I expect things like this will continue to happen! Party Ben who made this excellent mashup several years ago, “Another One Bites Da Funk”, has remastered due to it’s popularity in such things like say, DJ Hero! Funky. Check out his post on his perspective of this funky cupcake. Additionally, Party Ben talks about spending $200 either on a game, or getting an actual DJ set up. Can you get set up and started as a DJ for $200? I’d be interested in hearing what you have to say about that!

Here is the video from DJ Hero;

And ze classic, remastered!

glee-clubCuriouser and curiouser! Further down the rabbit hole we go! Last night the new episode of “glee” once again jumped head first into the world of mashups! The show continues to impress, surprise and tickle in all the right places.

While no actual mashups take place, there is some great discussion absisqoout what a mashup is, how it works with two or more seemingly unrelated tracks. The members and teachers attempt to mash together things like Neil Diamonds “Sweet Caroline” with Young MCs “Bust a move”. Or how about Sisqos “The thong song” mashed to “I could have danced all night” from My Fair Lady? Can these songs be mashed?I dunno…but the process of discovery may lead to some interesting revolutions.

Anywhoosil. It was interesting to see this topic come up again, and I’m sure it won’t be going away anytime soon. If anyone cares to try to mash these songs up, let me know what you come up with!
