Mashups, remixes, subs, and online parodies are new and refreshing online phenomena, but they partake of an ancient tradition: the recycling of old culture to make new. In spite of our romantic cliches about the anguished lone creator, the entire history of cultural production from Aeschylus through Shakespeare to Clueless has shown that all creators stand, as Isaac Newton (and so many others) put it, “on the shoulders of giants.”

DJ Stroke has created a fantastic 3 part youtube video on how he creates his mashups. This is an excellent learn as you go video presentation, and he ends up with a pretty sweet track. If you follow this series and make your first mashup, SEND IT IN TO US!
This section I’ll be putting together a bunch of links or documents that will show you how to make your very own mashups! If you have an article you would like to share, please feel free to send in an email. I am currently looking for “How to make a Video Mashup”, other articles using different software packages, theories of mashups or really any other interesting bit of mashup making goodness.
Below are articles I have put together in PDFs. So you can download them, print em off, make funny faces at em, whatever you like. I do try to keep credit where credit is due. If you are the writer of these articles and wish for them to be removed, just email me and I’ll take em down and then do horrible nasty things to them.
